Nutella French Toast Rolls for the soul

Little Pencil has been sick with the flu for the last week. It’s been a bit awful. He’s been “proper” sick – lying in his bed only moving to come and lie in my bed so that he can watch TV.  He hasn’t even gone downstairs to play x-Box which is more of an indicator of his illness than his 39.6 fevers.

But yesterday he started to nag me for Grand Theft Auto again so I knew he was feeling much better. Next step was to get him to eat something because seriously he’s thinner than paper after not eating much for a week (even though I made him proper Chicken Soup!). When he woke up this morning and asked for Nutella French Toast Rolls I knew recovery was complete.  I made them faster than he could change his mind and quickly put up a picture on Instagram (because they look scrumptious).  SO many people asked for the recipe I decided it was worthy of a blog post.

Nutella French Toast Rolls

HEALTH AND HAPPINESS WARNING: These are not paleo, they are not high protein, they are over refined, they have added sugar, they will possibly cause all matter of health issues if you eat them every day but they are bloody delicious and you won’t eat them every day so just enjoy.

You will need:

  • Slices of white bread (dependent on how many you want to make, I say make a billion)
  • Nutella
  • Free range egg (you only need one even if you are making like 10 rolls because it goes a long way to just coat the rolls)
  • Splash of milk
  • Sugar and cinnamon
  • Butter for frying

Cut the crusts off the bread and save them to feed the ducks or something. Next, I am sure you are supposed to use a rolling pin but I just use my hands to press each slice of bread so that it is thinner and flatter.

Spread the bread with nutella on one side then roll it up. You can use a smidge of nutella to seal the rolls.

Beat the egg with a bit of milk and pop the rolled up nutella breads in the egg to coat them.

Fry the rolls in the heated butter (in a pan on the stove)

Put the sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl and as you take the fried rolls out the pan roll them in the sugar/cinnamon mixture.

Eat and enjoy.

This whole recipe may remind you why I think I need a diet.
