There’s a butterfly in my email

I’m not the kind of person who likes practical jokes, in fact I hate them. I think Australia’s Funniest Home Videos is cruel and I get very uncomfortable when people are being pranked– even if everyone is aware it’s a joke. I think I get it from my mother who once told me that when she was a little girl and she used to eat a soft-boiled egg for breakfast her dad would turn the eaten egg over and tell her that she hadn’t started yet. She cried. I completely get where she came from.

Part of me believes I am the Senior Justice of the Justice System for the Entire Universe and everybody must be treated kindly with no jokes made at anybody’s expense.

Am I sounding like a barrel of fun yet?

Try living with me.

Or rather you should see how hard it is living with two boys who literally laugh at almost anything. Two males who laugh hysterically at “fail” videos and who think practical jokes are as funny as you get. A father and son who prank each other and then laugh for days at their set up and reaction.

I tend to tut from the sidelines like the great barrel of fun that I am. Note that I am not always referred to as the fun parent in the family.

But recently they broke me, well at least my son did.

My husband was at the airport due to board a flight to New Zealand, he had been in Melbourne all day and was catching up on some emails using his iPhone. He works in a heavily corporate area and deals with some pretty high level people. As is his want he had a lot of important and highly charged words to convey to some fancy pants people because business. Much pressure many deadlines.

Just watch Irving do what he does best, and pair him with someone who excels at viagra without rx customer service. Stress, underweight and overweight can adversely affect cheapest cialis uk these hormones levels. You will get the benefit and you should not get any disappointment and get the desired effect from oral medications such as low cost viagra, to buy certain powerful fat burners or muscle gainers, growing new hair, slow down ageing, to stimulate our hormones, to fight bacteria with anti-biotic,or perhaps to become smarterthan others by increasing our brain intelligence and cognitive powers. Truth be told, this herbal cialis 10 mg generic sildenafil is the world’s most powerful aphrodisiac. He was tapping away at the tiny keyboard when he looked at the screen and saw the word butterfly. Strange, he thought not imagining what word he used that would have autocorrected to butterfly. But he was busy and so he deleted it and carried on. A while later on a different email he noticed it again, more than once – the word butterfly in the middle of a sentence. He had clearly sent a few emails peppered with the word butterfly.

Mr Pencil is very practical and smart, he is quick to find solutions and implement them so he took to Google to determine exactly what this problem was and how it could be rectified. But Google had no answers. It seems that the random display of the word butterfly in email messages is not something that anyone seemed to have had issues with before. Google was stumped.

But Mr Pencil is also smart enough to know that Little Pencil knows a lot about technology and more about the internet (because he reads Reddit all day) . So he called him from the airport sounding a tiny bit exasperated and strung out.

I handed Little Pencil the phone and about a minute into the conversation I heard giant peals of laughter both from Little Pencil and Mr Pencil on the other end.

It turns out that two weeks prior my prankster son had set the autocorrect in his father’s phone to correct the word “and” to “butterfly”.

Even though my husband has blithely been sending out texts and emails full of butterflies for the last two weeks in professional and corporate emails he laughed hysterically, wrote a few apologetic emails to explain himself and has not been able to stop expressing pride in his child for executing such a masterful prank.

Even I think it was funny.

I’m with you not a huge fan of pranks but that is really kind of funny.

  2. Hahaha I don’t mind harmless pranks, where the ‘victim’ of the prank is going to find it funny (often when I am pranked well I actually wish I’d thought of it first and have to concede that it’s hilarious). I think that the butterfly prank is pretty hilarious and I am impressed your husband took the joke with such a sense of humour.
