How was your week?

Looks like this post is becoming something of a regular, which is a good thing, I need a bit of regular in my life and I really I hope it works for you too. So let me take you for a look back at my week before you share yours with me.

Good

My friend Margaret sent me this video. It made me worry about how much time I waste. Even more so when I watched it more than once. But you should watch it – because it’s amazing. And perspective

Bad

A very tragic death of someone whose family touches on ours. Can’t talk too much about it because it is not my story to tell or to share but the death and the sadness that it has caused his parents and brother is tangible and has lingered in my thoughts all week.

Good and Bad

The week started off with White Ribbon Day, White Ribbon is the world’s largest male-led movement to end men’s violence against women and White Ribbon Day  signals the start of the 16 Days of Activism to Stop Violence against Women, which ends on Human Rights Day (10 December). It’s an amazing initiative but I do kind of wish we were calling for an end to violence against all people. I know, I know about the terrible abuse that many women suffer and I think we should campaign against it till it no longer exists but let’s call for an end to all violence.

And while everybody’s mind was firmly focussed on violence against women, Simon Gittany was found guilty of murdering his girlfriend Lisa Harnum.  I was as obsessed with this case as most women I know. Almost a bit too close to NCIS/Law and Order etc with the close circuit TV and the sheer horror of what this poor woman was going through.  I think this tweet from Kate McClymont sums up what so many people were thinking

The best and most important advice about how to deal with a friend or family member that you think might be in an abusive relationship can be found here

Still on domestic violence and this time the hideous Charles Saatchi. God it must be hard to have a fallout with someone who wields the kind of PR and marketing power that he has.  You can read all about it here but can I just say that whether or not Nigella has ever taken a drug or if she hasn’t, it doesn’t change the fact that he assaulted her in public. I have no idea what goes on behind closed doors but what happened on the outside is not okay. Never. Not at all and it IS NOT NIGELLA’S FAULT.

Good

I wrote a post entitled 11 things you probably don’t know about me and started to see similar posts popping up all around the place. That was a bit awesome*. Possibly as awesome if not more so, when a beautiful friend that has no blog and is not a “writer” shared her own version of “11 things” with me the other evening. I was so touched I had to try not to cry in front of her by saying silly things so that my tears turned to laughter.

Well in my eyes he is. He has been doing it since he was 4 and now at the ripe old age of 12 he has started to help out at his dojo and is now teaching the “little kids”.  This week his Master told me that in classes he teaches he is nurturing and kind, a born leader. I am still smiling because i there is nothing more important to me than my child being kind. And the fact that he is teaching and being kind and not being bossy is just music to my ears.

Funny

The spoof of the Kanye West song Bound 2. I wish the tune wasn’t so catchy because it is still the worst song I can remember hearing. Watch this video of the original video next to the spoof one. Worth sitting through the song again but even funny if you watch it with the sound switched off to protect your ears

Good Again

I wrote about Little Pencil after I saw an amazing video showing the progress of a baby from his entrance in the world far too soon. I feel so grateful every time I think of how far my son has come. If you missed it you can watch the video and see my post here

Even More Good

I am off to Melbourne for the weekend. Hubby has a conference and Little Pencil and I are joining him for the weekend. We were going to go after school today (Friday) but I decided to keep him home and we went out for breakfast, shopping for shoes (he has his father’s love of shoes) and just hung. A woman at the shoe shop remarked on his beautiful manners (drumming stuff into your kids when they are young works) and I was so proud my eyes leaked a bit.

  1. Honestly – the single most amazing thing you can tell me about my children is that they are kind.

  2. Bad? Honestly, can’t really think of anything – there’s always bad news out there, but personally things are really good for me at the moment…

Good… I finally passed the 60k word mark on my book…. this is a big milestone for me because I’ve never managed to get so far into writing a book before… still want to get over 80k by the end of the year before I attend a 6th Months writers workshop at the Australian Writers Centre next year… so, fingers-crossed, it’s all coming together… 🙂

  3. Well…my week…
Good: Work is going fabulously. Got some amazing feedback earlier in the week, so that made my entire week.

Good (again): I made some progress on a story im writing.

Good (& again): I get to go shopping at the weekend. For Christmas presents for others…even when not buying for myself, I love shopping!

Good (& again): Got some of the most incredibly amazing news the other day. Still mentally absorbing what happened so not ready to share too much yet, but never imagined I’d hear what I heard. That makes me the happiest person in the world.

Bad: It’s the end of the week so very soon all the amazingness would have happened last week!…yep for bad that’s all I’ve got!

    Happy Friday!

  4. This was just a week. An even week: no highs, no lows.

  5. Good: Nanowrimo is over.

Bad: I can’t remember anything else about November.

Good: My cat is sleeping on me.

Good: I had the foresight to buy all the chocolate yesterday.

Bad: I can’t get the chocolate because the cat is on me.

  6. Bad – you didn’t have the foresight to put the chocolate IN your bed with you xx

  7. Damned computers ! For the second time in less than a week, my computer decided that it couldn’t take what the world was saying and decided to die on me !

It was the third time in two months.

Computer guy says “get a new computer”. Only 18 months old and already a dinosaur !

Ran into some old friends that I haven’t seen in nearly 30 years. Found out that they live a mere three blocks away. Already I’ve been invited around for a meal.

Still having troubles with my weight. Feeling numbness in my little toe. Dr worried that diabetes might be my new BFF !

Can’t shake this darn summer cold….and I have to sing solo at our club’s Christmas show in less than two weeks. Remedy recommendations….please !!!!!!!

My wife’s birthday tomorrow. I have lots of surprises for her. She has to put up with me, so she deserves a surprise or two !
